Weekly waste free tips #2 – Sustainable work life
When you dash off in the morning for work, thinking green is often the last thing on your mind when you're worrying about traffic, running late and whether you've got cereal on your shirt. As our work often takes up the majority of our time each week, our little habits each morning could be having more of an effect on the environment than you may realise.
So we're here to help you take a look at how to be more eco-friendly at work, and how you can make a difference with a few changes to your daily routine.
Getting your lunch together before you leave the house will not only save you money, it will also help you cut down on your waste. When you buy your lunch during your break, it's highly likely to come in some single-use, disposable container or packaging. While some cafes or delis may have recyclable packaging, even this can't beat the zero-waste opportunity to bundle up your lunch in one of our reusable sandwich wraps.
The adjustable fit means that whether it's a slim Vegemite or a multi-layered salad sandwich, you can rest assured knowing your lunch is safe in your bag. As well as getting rid of the need for foil and food wrap, our sandwich wraps are easy to clean with just a wipe with a damp cloth.
If you're not a morning person, it's best to get everything laid out and ready to go the night before, so that you have the best shot at making it out the door on time.
You can probably guess what we're going to suggest for making this part of your day more sustainable.
If you're already using public transport to get to and from the office, then keep up the good work. For those who still rely on their cars, why not give the bus or train a go? If you're worried about running late, try catching a few different services to get a feel for the way the timetable runs.
Some online mapping services can also help by estimating how long your journey will be by public transport, as well as recommending which services to use. Many cities will also have a dedicated public transport app so that you can get live updates on the go.
Biking or walking is also great if you live not too far away from the office. If you want to take this up, it's a great way to make your commute eco-friendly, as well as getting in a bit of exercise. If you're going to be cycling, check out Onya's range of bags and backpacks to make the ride more comfortable. And make sure you're bringing your BPA free drink bottle to keep you hydrated for the day ahead.
You've made it through the morning and now it's time for a well-deserved break. Why not give the environment a hand and skip the disposable coffee cup? As well as looking mighty swell, our reusable coffee cups will see you through endless cappuccinos and lattes. Their silicone construction means that your fingers won't feel the heat while your drink stays piping hot.
You can also choose your size, as well as your colour with the reassurance that your cup will fit barista machines wherever good coffee is found. We Aussies love a good brew, but with over 400 million coffees being consumed out of disposable takeaway cups, now's the time to start changing how we do things.
If you're worried about leaving your reusable coffee cup at home, rinse it out at work and pop it on your desk overnight – a good barista will give it a blast under hot water before they make your next coffee in it. At the end of the week, take it home for a good scrub, and you're all set for the weekend.
