Enjoy The Health Benefits Of Coffee Without Harming The Environment

There’s always been heated debate surrounding coffee – in particular, the health benefits of coffe (or detriments, according to some). But according to a recent study conducted by researchers at Johns Hopkins University, coffee really is good for you, and does more than just wake you up.

In fact, it’s now believed that coffee can significantly improve memory for up to 24 hours after consumption. It may also have long-term benefits on memory.

According to Michael Yassa, assistant professor of psychological and brain sciences at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, participants who consumed coffee in his study were more likely to recall images up to 24 hours later.

It’s no wonder that so many people can’t go without their morning flat white. After all, a boost in memory will do anyone good during their working day. Perhaps this research will increase the already huge estimated 1 billion takeaway coffee cups that the University of Queensland (UQ) found are produced each year in Australia.

That’s a huge number, and it’s creating a huge amount of waste. UQ estimates over 7,000 tonnes of waste are generated from those 1 billion cups. Scarily, cups that contain polyethylene can release methane gas when decomposing. This gas contributes to global warming at a rate 21 times higher than carbon dioxide.

But there’s hope for coffee addicts who care about the environment.

By simply switching to a travel coffee cup, you can enjoy a daily coffee with virtually zero impact on waste and greenhouse gas production while enjoying the health benefits of coffee.

Using a reusable coffee cup is easy – either make a delicious espresso at home before work, or ask your local barista to use it when making your daily cuppa. Reusable coffee cups are also great at retaining heat, keeping your coffee piping hot for longer.
