James Bond: An eco friendly icon?

You might not have realised it, but one of the actors part of the iconic James Bond legacy is a veritable eco friendly activist.

That's right, Pierce Brosnan himself, who played the Shaken – Not Stirred character on the silver screen between 1995 and 2002 is an environmental inspiration.

Far from the shoot-em-up antics of the cinematic world, the way Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye work together to protect the planet is detailed on the actor's personal website.

It explains how the couple volunteer their time to support a number of important environmental causes, such as marine mammal and wetland protection, clean water and fresh air.

From lobbying governments to better protect whales and other marine mammals to preventing potentially hazardous factories and drill sites from being developed, they are passionate about helping the planet thrive.

In acknowledgement of this, they have been recognised with a number of awards and honours. Thee Environmental Media Association and Women In Film have given the couple humanitarian awards and other organisations, such as the Green Cross, have honoured them too.

If you want to follow in the footsteps of Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye what can you do?

There are a number of ways you can pitch in and help the planet. You can start small, too, by using items such as reusable sandwich wrap and shopping bags that reduce the amount of plastic circulating the globe. That means less waste making its way into our waterways, leading to fewer marine mammals and ecosystems being damaged.

You can volunteer your time with various organisations promoting a clean and healthy planet, whether it's heading out on a beach clean up or helping educate others on how to make their habits more 'green'.

If James Bond can do it, you can too!
