Two Healthy Treats To Pack In Your Reusable Sandwich Wrap
Have you ever felt guilty about the fact that despite using eco friendly products in order to be kind to our environment, you’re not so kind to your own body by not indulging in healthy treats?
If sugar-laden treats, fast food and takeaways are a staple part of your diet, it may pay to rethink what you’re putting in your body in order to maximise your health.
However, this doesn’t mean you have to live off celery sticks and green smoothies. There are plenty of yummy recipes for healthy treats that are mouth-watering and good for you at the same time – and they’re the perfect addition to take for lunch in your reusable sandwich wrap!
Banana blueberry wholemeal muffins
These scrummy muffins are delicious and the perfect mid-morning snack with a hot cup of tea, but they have no added sugar and the ingredients are rather wholesome – bonus! The recipe is from Allrecipes.co.nz.
You’ll need two ripe mashed bananas, one egg, half a cup of water, 125ml vegetable oil, two cups of wholemeal flour, one cup fresh blueberries, one teaspoon of baking soda and two and a quarter teaspoons of baking powder.
To make the muffins, start by greasing a muffin tin with butter or cooking spray, and preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Next, thoroughly mix together the wet ingredients (bananas, egg, water and oil), before adding the dry ingredients to the mixture. Once well combined, gently fold in the blueberries and bake for around 15 minutes or until golden.
The Heart Foundation’s “Heart Healthy Scones”
Scones are a classic, and these healthy treats come with a tick of approval from the Heart Foundation.
To make them, you will need one and a half cups of plain flour, one and a half cups of wholemeal flour, two tablespoons of both baking powder and caster sugar, two teaspoons of ground cinnamon, 50 grams of ‘tick-approved’ margarine spread, three quarters of a cup of chopped dried fruit, a cup of trim milk and a third of a cup of reduced fat plain yoghurt.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and grease a baking tray. Combine flour, baking powder, sugar and cinnamon and mix in a bowl. Use your fingers to rub the margarine into the dry mixture, then add the chopped fruit. Make a well and add the wet ingredients and combine, then separate the mixture onto the tray and bake for 15 minutes.
