Our Impact 2024
Sustainability Report

About Our Brands

Onya is part of a family of purpose-driven brands owned by RQM Holdings Pty Ltd. Sustainability is at the heart of every decision we make, and through our two purpose-driven brands, Onya and Podstar reusable coffee pods, we’re committed to reducing single-use waste, lowering carbon emissions, and designing products that last. This report outlines the tangible impact we made in 2024 and the goals we’re working towards for the future.
While each brand focuses on different product categories, both share the same mission: to reduce waste, promote reuse, and design products that protect our planet.
Together, we are building a sustainable future by replacing single-use items with high-quality, long-lasting alternatives.

Measuring our progress

In 2024, Onya continued its commitment to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy through product design, material choices, and partnerships. We measure our impact by the waste we help our customers avoid, the sustainable materials we use, and the long-term goals we set for improvement.

2024 Impact Highlights

- Total plastic and pod waste avoided: 6.83 tonnes

- Single-use coffee pods avoided: 1.88 million

- Onya products sold: 7,757 units

- Podstar reusable pods sold: 1,717 units

- Disposable plastic bottles avoided: approx. 17,000

Reducing Waste

All Onya fabric products are made from certified recycled rPET, sourced from post-consumer plastic bottles. By using rPET, we give a second life to plastic that might otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean.
Our packaging is home compostable and designed to break down quickly in a natural environment, leaving no harmful residues.
We avoid single-use wherever possible, creating durable, reusable alternatives that replace thousands of disposable items over their lifespan.

Carbon Emissions

We measure and report our carbon emissions through the B Corp Impact Assessment, with a goal to reduce total emissions by 20%.
While we have limited control over some factors, such as energy use in our 3PL warehouses, we actively:

- Choose sea freight over air freight wherever possible.

- Optimise delivery routes and batch orders to reduce transport emissions.

- Use an electric vehicle for company operations.

- Source suppliers and partners with strong environmental commitments.

Product End-of-Life

Our responsibility doesn’t end when a product reaches the end of its life. We are affiliated with TerraCycle, allowing customers to return worn-out products for recycling into new materials. This ensures our products don’t contribute to landfill waste.

Looking Ahead

Our commitment is to ensure that 100% of products and packaging are made from renewable, recycled, or compostable materials.
We will continue to:

- Increase the recycled content in our products.

- Improve recycling and end-of-life options for customers.

- Expand community education on sustainable living through online resources.

- Reduce operational emissions wherever possible.

Environmental Goals

Carbon Emissions Reduction

In 2025, we measured our operational carbon footprint as part of our B Corp impact assessment. Our goal is to reduce total emissions by 20% by 2027, focusing on freight, delivery, and supply chain efficiencies.

Actions include:

- Continuing to prioritise sea freight over air freight to minimise transport emissions

- Optimising delivery routes and batching orders to reduce courier trips

- Encouraging customers to choose slower, lower-emission shipping options at checkout

- Expanding carbon-neutral or carbon-offset shipping programs with delivery partners

- Working with 3PL providers to improve packaging efficiency and consolidate shipments

- Engaging suppliers to measure and reduce their own carbon impacts

- Maintaining our all-electric company vehicle

- Reducing business travel and favouring virtual meetings

Waste Reduction

We aim to reduce our total waste footprint by 15% by 2027, with a focus on eliminating unnecessary packaging and increasing product lifespan.

Actions include:

- Designing products, such as Podstar reusable coffee pods to last a lifetime, preventing over 3g of waste per use

- Continuing to use compostable or recyclable packaging for all products

- Encouraging customers to reuse packaging where possible

- Working with suppliers to minimise or eliminate plastic in incoming shipments

- Partnering with waste reduction initiatives to improve recycling rates in our community

We are proud that 100% of our products and packaging already meet our sustainability and ethical sourcing criteria, with all packaging being compostable or recyclable.
Our next goal is to strengthen our supply chain by ensuring all suppliers meet verified environmental, social, and ethical standards by 2026.

Actions include:

- Sourcing materials with verified environmental and social certifications

- Prioritising suppliers with strong labour rights and environmental standards

- Favouring recycled, upcycled, or low-impact raw materials in product design

- Continuing to work with coffee roasters and manufacturers who share our sustainability values

- Reviewing supplier performance annually to ensure compliance with our sourcing standards

Key Environmental & Social Outcomes

In 2024, 100% of our product fabrics were made from recycled rPET. All packaging used was either compostable or recyclable. We set a 20% carbon reduction goal for 2025, with annual progress tracked through the B Corp Impact Assessment. Our national TerraCycle program continued to provide product take-back and recycling services. We also selected supply chain partners based on their commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.

Performance Summary

We measure and publish our environmental and social performance each year. This includes detailed descriptions of our initiatives, the specific outcomes achieved, and our progress toward long-term targets.
